Crédit Agricole Atlantique Vendée : Environmental conference on climate change - by Dr. Jean-Louis Bertrand - Feb 8, 2024

Crédit Agricole Atlantique Vendée  convened nearly 300 participants at the Campus by CA for its environmental conference on climate change. The event featured a presentation by Virginie Raisson-Victor, President of the GIEC PL, on the consequences of climate change in the Pays de la Loire region. The evening continued with Jean-Louis Bertrand discussing the necessity for businesses to adapt and introducing Physicalclimaterisks., the pioneering tool for diagnosing physical climate risks.

Regardless of the greenhouse gas reduction scenario France and the rest of the world commit to, it will take several decades for both the population and businesses to experience a reduction in the climate risks they face. This delay is due to the lifespan and existing quantity of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Business leaders must adopt adaptation strategies to enhance their resilience, ensuring the well-being and health of their employees, maintaining access to bank financing and competitive borrowing terms that accurately reflect the risks incurred, securing the insurability of company assets and activities at fair prices, and adhering to new accounting and environmental standards that impact them or their industrial partners.

This strategy begins with measuring risk on an asset-by-asset basis and developing actionable risk metrics to evaluate the return on investment for any adaptation decisions. The Physicalclimaterisks. climate risk assessment solution was developed according to a roadmap established by the companies involved in defining the risk metrics and deliverables. This roadmap emphasizes a transparent, verifiable, and auditable methodology, certified and accessible climate data, deliverables that are understandable and integrable into investment decisions, risk metrics tailored to the needs of each asset and company, a standardized risk assessment method for asset comparison, deliverables that meet regulatory requirements, a tool that can be managed in-house as company’s expertise on climate risks and resources grow, and affordability for any SME.

Special thanks to Luc Jeanneau, Chairman; Nicole Gourmelon, General Manager; Stéphane Bouganim, Director of Business and Innovation; Elise Rouhet, Director of Data and Transformation Management; Ternynck Simon, Director of Risk; and Laurent Vigreux, Chief Financial Officer of Crédit Agricole Atlantique Vendée, for their warm welcome and the opportunity to present Physicalclimaterisks.
